ESI Registration identifies every employer/factory and its every employee/workers employed for the purpose of the ESI scheme and their individual records are set up for them. ESI scheme aims to provide social protection to workers in the organized sector and their dependants in any unexpected employment injury or occupational disease. The scheme provides full medical facilities to insured persons and their dependants. As compensation for loss of wages or earning capacity in different unexpected events cash benefits is also given.
Employees registered under the ESI scheme are entitled to a range of benefits. Employees and their families can avail medical treatment and attendance including not only medical but surgical and obstetric treatment as well. Supply of medicines, super specialty consultations, etc. can also be availed. Sick pay benefits also included. Thus, it advised for employees to register under ESI scheme.
ESI stands for Employee State Insurance managed by the Employee State Insurance Corporation which is an autonomous body created by the law under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. This scheme is started for Indian workers. Under this scheme, the workers are provided with a huge variety of medical, monetary and other benefits by the employer. Any Company having more than 10 employees (in some states it is 20 employees) who have the maximum salary of Rs. 15000/- has to mandatorily register itself with the ESIC.
